Data safes are fireproof safes designed to protect and store items that are more vulnerable to fire than paper. Paper can tolerate temperatures up to 177° Celsius before charring or combusting. Common electronic data media such as hard drives, CDs and DVDs are far more susceptible to heat and humidity damage, as are other items such as photos or video tape.
